On Friday, September 15h WES celebrated Dot Day.
Peter Reynolds wrote the book called “The Dot” (and the book “Ish”) about a little girl who did not have the confidence to create. Her art teacher asked her to make a mark (dot) on a paper. The art teacher framed it and the little girl found the confidence to create all sorts of fantastic dots leading to an array of dot art! I’m 2009, a teacher out west, took the idea and started what is now International Dot Day across the world and the book is published in many languages.
Ms. Waz did a week long art lesson with K-2 on dots. This year we decided to take it to the next level and made it a whole day/whole school dot spirit day/activities at WES. Students came dressed in polka dots or homemade dot shirts. We had a “Spot the Dot” scavenger hunt around the building. Danni set up an easel so students could come by and “leave a mark” as a cumulative art piece.
